Ok OPPO, I will be getting my license in about 8 Months and conveniently I have an uncle who owns a 06 Accord V6 6MT Sedan...He wants a new car (the Accord has 200k Miles) and the requirements are 240+ HP, semi-premium (equal or greater to the Accord), a Sedan, and a Manual. Also it has to be reasonably priced ($45,000 or less), he was going to buy a TL with the 6MT and SH-AWD but as that went out of production he needs another option. I obviously want to help him find a new car because then I can buy his for a song.

2014 Audi A4 Premium Plus 2.0 TFSI. Manual, AWD, $38,200 for a base model. 220 Hp though, It's turbo so 220 Hp would do just fine. You can always chip tune it upwards.

How about a new Jetta GLI it is 30 horsepower short but it is a sedan and a 6 speed manual and it is only for about $25000

BMW 328i starts at about $38,000 so he would have some cash left over for upgrades and such. 240 horsepower, which is underrated. And a 6MT option.

There is only one answer...328. However he is probably going to have to factory order the 6MT. Of course if he wants to save 20k the 4cyl Accord Sport 6MT is going to feel just as quick as his V6 Accord and he won't have to worry about maintenance.

Well, I'd rather see it with a hatchback, but if he wants a sedan, he's in luck. Fills all of the requirements, and he gets the AWD that the TL he wanted had.

BMW 5 series or a 3 series. Does it have to be new? You could get a used 535i m-sport with a 6MT for under $45k.

my concern with that is the extensive use of hard plastics in the interior

I have sat in a Jetta GLI and I thought the interior was excellent. I thought the plastics weren't cheap feling or anything like that.

G37 sedan - ~40k with options and taxes. Basically a 370Z sedan with nicer seats. Sadly you can't order a manual transmission anymore but there might be a handful floating around on dealer lots and perhaps they can be special ordered.

my thoughts (coming from a 15yr old)
bang for buck: Jetta GLI+ Chip and exhaust. Will make 250hp/300ft-lbs on 91 octane, and for $30,000 (that's with every option, minus the DSG) he'll get a comfortable, fast, handsome car that would shame the old accord in the twisties
coolness factor: BMW 335i. Yes, you can get a new 335i for $44,500. It's at the top of his budget, but then again, it's a German made 300 horsepower RWD inline-6 turbo sports sedan. It's an amazing machine. Alternatively, a 328i with the turbo-4 is a good choice as well.
Other choice: a Buick Regal GS is another possible choice in this competition. The regal is a 260hp sedan that is both a different choice, and a quick one. you have to get FWD to have the 6M/T, but that's not too big of a deal. Also, it's kind of a sleeper, since people don't expect Buicks to haul ass. Also, it's basically an Opel insignia underneath. My Uncle has an Insignia in Europe (a 2011 one) and it's a very nice car, even in 175hp form, like he has it.
Personally I'd pick the VW, but I do say that he should go drive the Buick as well

Good luck finding a used BMW with a 6 speed. You can go the non-CPO route, but I wouldn't recommend it with a Bimmer.

exactly, the 2015's are supposed to be a lot better about all the rattling and cheapness to the interior than the older ones. I haven't messed with one either, but that's according to what I've seen written.

Good point. If they're well taken care of though, it shouldn't be too bad. I know for a fact that a 2002 WRX that's been *very* well taken care of doesn't rattle much at all, since it's been treated so well. I think (and I'll try to stay off my soapbox) if people took better care of their cars, stuff like that wouldn't happen. So many people slam their doors and trunks shut with excessive force, and that causes rattles. They aren't doing it intentionally, but it definitely contributes.

I'd buy it if I was in NJ. I looked for a month and a half in AZ for a CPO 6 speed and found nothing. Two different dealers both told me they rarely get them, and even if I wanted one new I'd have to order it as they don't order any manuals to keep in stock. Two were available in that month and half on Car Max, but no CPO.

That can definitely be a factor, but usually the ones with minimal rattles are just lucky. And I don't mean just Subaru, rattles decrease inversely to the original price of the vehicle. For example: Nissan versa, more rattles than dollars spent within first year on one car; R231 Mercedes SL hardtop convertible less than a dozen total rattles through my store in the last year. Obviously these numbers are not in any way conjecture as my memory is entirely infallible*, and are also backed up by professional* research documents* which I am unable to provide due to official MB security clearance.
*nonexistent

Yes and no. TBH honest with todays tech stick doesnt necessarily provide any improvements in regards MPG. I am so with you on more diesels in Merica. Im in the market for a minivan and I would wish there was a diesel option for any of them.

I don't want a sick because they're faster or more efficient, because like you said, they aren't necessarily. I want a stick because they are more fun. My commute doesn't involve heavy traffic and I frequently drive on roads that are excellent for a bit of fun. And as for the diesel van, MB R350/320. I know they're ugly as sin and have some problems, but hey, diesel mini van. If you stay up maintenance they can be quite reliable, especially if you throw in services at the same time as trans services, 40k. Then the biggest fear is the oil cooler leaking, by now many of those have been fixed. You can even find them with CPO warranties, which are excellent and can go up to 135k iI think.

Yeah, no to the MB R class. That things is fugly.
I totally agree with you on stick as a more engaging way to drive, espeically for a commute. I have 60 mile round trip commute so I have been considering a commuter DD with a stick. The only fear I have is traffic.
Ive been flip flopping on the minivan and may lean twoards keeping my 4 door sedan for family use and getting a sportier car w/ a manual gearbox for my DD. Preferrably cheap and decent on gas :)

I have such a hard-on for those V6 6MT Accords. Those engines can make 250+ whp without any gigantic investment, they sing sweetly, good gas mileage, total sleeper factor (especially in the rare sedan). I would kill to find one, but the good ones are a little out of my price range typically.
